Tea time for cloud X

While learning about the UK this week one thing the children learnt was that the English love a good cup of tea! Cloud X took on the biscuit dunking challenge while trying Ms Hayley's favorite hot drink.  Almost all the children enjoyed the taste of their tea dunked biscuits and many wanted a refil once their cup was empty.

Weekly Update

International Week

As you already know, next week is International week.  Across the school the children will be learning about different countries around the world.  F3 will be focusing on learning about the UK and exploring the differences between life there and life in Vietnam.

On Monday please dress the children in their national dress ready for the parade in the gym.  You are welcome to watch the parade with the rest of the school which will include a number of wonderful performances from the children and their parents.

On Wednesday the children will enjoy a national buffet for their lunch in the canteen.  Look out for pictures on next weeks blog!

Letter Formation

The children are continuing to learn how to form the letters of their name and the letters of the sounds they are learning correctly.  Below is a picture of a sound mat that we have in the classroom to support their writing development.  As you can see all of the letters have a picture that not only helps the children to identify the sound but also acts as a reminder of how to write the letter correctly.  In your child's home school dairy you will find a page that include the rhymes for each sound, explaining how to write it.  At the moment we are still focusing on writing lower case letters, except for the first letter of their name.   If you would like any more information about supporting you children with their writing at home then please feel free to speak to Ms Hayley or Mr John.

World Nursery Rhyme Week

This week the children have been celebrating 'World Nursery Rhyme Week'.  They are been drawing story maps of their favourite nursery rhymes and making up new ones of their own.  The children have also enjoyed watching video's of the EYFS children at BIS AP1 and BVIS singing nursery rhymes.  Ask your child to share their favourite rhyme with you at home, you could even challenge them to make up a new one of their own.

Thank you to all of the parents and carers who came to join us on Thursday afternoon.  The children loved showing you around their classroom and showing you some of the activities they did this week.

Welcome Back!

F3 have all returned from their half term holidays full of excitement and stories of their adventures.  Thank you to all the parents who have uploaded pictures to your child's tapestry account sharing what you have been doing at home.  Your children have been enthusiastically talking about these pictures to their friends as we show them in news time.

F3 Office!
To start the new half term F3 have a new role play.  Introducing the F3 office!

Over the coming weeks we will be sharing with the children more about what happens in an office and setting them challenges to complete when they are at work.  At home you could talk about what people do in an office.

Phonics
This week the children were taught phonics in new groups! So far all group have been taught the following sounds...

'a' 's' 'm' 't' 'd' 'i' 'n'

The children have learnt to read and write these sounds and are now beginning to blend words made up of these letters.

Lateness
Please can we remind you that teaching starts promptly at 8:00am in F3 so it is of great importance for you to ensure that your child arrives at school on time.  We understand that sometimes an occasional late can not be avoided but continued late arrival will impact your child's phonics learning.

Messy Play
Thank you to all of those who attended the Messy Play coffee morning.  As promised here is a copy of how to make playdough at home.

Messy Play

You may often wonder why the children come home with a 'dirty' uniform!  Come along to our EYFS Messy Play coffee morning to find our more about the importance of messy play in your child's development and the learning opportunities that they gain from these experiences.

Friday 7 October 2016

F3 Update!

This week the children have enjoyed learning more about transport and have even invented their own form of transport for the dragon!

Phonics
All F3 children have now learnt the sounds 'm,a,s,d&t'.  This week we have been practising to hear these sounds in words and read simple words made of these sounds.

Maths
The children have been focusing on finding the number that is 1 more than a given number to 20.  They have been playing the game bus stop in the classroom where they are adding passengers to a bus and counting on 1 or 2 more.

Whats new?
This week a story telling shelf was introduced into our reading area.  Story telling is a very important skill for our children to develop and this shelf provided the F3's with puppets and props to make up their own stories or retell ones that they already know and love.  Telling stories helps to build the children's imagination and vocabulary.  Why not try making up stories with your children at home and recording it for their tapestry page?!

Reminders
Please ensure your children wear the correct shoes to school, especially on PE days.  The children run around during this lesson as well as at play time which means crocs and sandals are not appropriate.

Star of the week
Well done to Benjamin (F3X) and Minjae (F3T) for being this years first stars of the week.  This week the certificates go to....

My Ut  (F3X)
Alex (F3T)

We hope that they have a lovely weekend with our class mascots and that the rest of F3 enjoy their weekend with their family and friends.

Book characters parade

Snuggle up and Read

Today we had so much fun in Clould T. We wore our cosy pyjamas and year 5 children joined us to read books. We also drank chocolate milk and ate marshmallow.

Thursday 22 September 2016

Weekly Update!

Well F3 have had a very busy week!  It all started with Mr John's bike breaking and the children becoming mechanics to put it back together again.  Look out for Ms Chau's slide show of the children hard at work.

Phonics

F3 have started their phonic lessons.  This week both F3T and F3X have learnt the sounds 'a' 's' and 'm'.  In phonics the children learn the letter sounds and not the letter names for letters because this helps them when it comes to reading and writing.  If you are unsure how to pronounce the sounds properly then try to down load the 'sound mat' from www.zatphonics.com as a useful tool for you and your children to learn all of the sounds.

When teaching phonics and early writing your children will learn to write lower case letters.  If you are doing any writing at home please encourage the children to write lower case letters and not capital letters.  They can write a capital letter for the first letter of their name but the rest of the alphabet can wait until later in the year.

Brilliant Books

On Monday please dress your child as their favourite book character! We will be joining years 1-6 in a costume parade at 8:45am.  You are invited to watch the parade that will take place in the school hall.

On Friday the children will take part in 'snuggle up and read'.  This is when the F3 classes join another class for a hot chocolate and marshmallow treat to share books.  On Friday please put a set of Pyjamas in your child's school bag for them to wear at this time.

Busy Books

Today in the classroom the children shared what they have been doing at home in their busy books.  Thank you to those of you who have encourage their children to do some activities at home.  There is now a new list of suggested activities stuck in the children's busy books.

And lastly...

Thank you to all of you who have been adding observations of your children at home to your child's tapestry account.  It is lovely to see what they get up to outside of school.

Have a lovely weekend
